Dear Dad,

I received your June 30 letter only yesterday. A lot must have happened since then.  But your letter was good to receive even though the news was a month old.  You must not spend time feeling sorry that I have had to go overseas.  I know you never would believe that it was possible, but it is not too bad and I am in good health. Of course I miss my family tremendously and furthermore am aware how much I am needed at home.  I keep my spirits up by hoping that it will not be for long. The possibility for revolt in Germany has given us added hope and is the cause for many rumors.  (paragraph symbol)   I was interested in the news about the book and the (unclear) of the man, Clark.  It was important that this happened and caused you so much work.  I can picture the girls on their short vacation at Marblehead, bathing and picnicing on the beach.  It was so typical even to the inclement weather.

Did I tell you that I visited (censored) recently (?.) It was another interesting experience.  I hope to see some more of the countryside and towns during the coming week.  I had an interesting conversation in trans, on one of my trips.  It is nice getting to know the people and what they are thinking.  The city streets are full of busy people.  About two thirds I should say wearing some kind of a uniform.  Many are riding bicycles.  Give my love to dear Aunt Hattie and Aunt Polly.  Write one “V” mail or if a long letter Air mail.  They take about the same time in transit

with much love –  Carl
