Somewhere in the British Isles
Somewhere in British Isles 7/21/44
Dear Dad,
I am writing principally to tell you of change in APO. It is now 403. I am still enjoying the countryside is my spare time. There are some charming villages to explore, and interesting people to talk with. Their customs are certainly different from ours in many ways.
I just received a letter from Rena (sister) which she wrote while visiting you and one from Aunt Geneva (his mother’s sister) posted at the same time. It seems as though correspondence takes a long time. I have had no answers yet, to letters I have written from this side. Use “v” mail or air mail when you write.
You probably are highly elated over recent developments in the European front. Don’t be too optimistic though. I dare not.
I must remark that I have seen some of the healthiest looking rose bushed here that I have seen anywhere outside of Aunt Harriet’s garden (Harriet R. Foote: Horticulturalist, gardening consultant, author of books on rose cultivation.) It must be combination of the climate and the care given them.
Lots of Love, Carl
