Moved!
Wow, was that stressful.
We moved from Cabot to Hardwick this week. It was pretty hard.
We had thought that we could start moving July 21, just a van-load at a time, but that became July 28. And finally Emily wasn’t ready, so we couldn’t move anything until July 30! Two days!
I went over there in the evening of July 29 and brought Grace’s rocking chair and another rocker as the ceremonial First Items. Now there are stacks of boxes all over the new place. We still have stuff at the old house, but no one is moving in there, so we aren’t totally stressed out. But I’ve been short with the kids, and it’s been really hot and sweaty. The new house seems hotter than the old, I fear for it’s insulation. It’s nice in some ways, but the house needs it’s electric replaced. It’s clearly wired in 1920, when one outlet per room was extravagant and the switch for the light is always in the next room over. Our bedroom has no light at all.
I started the phone change-over today, and we have to fill out the Hardwick Electric form. We’ll be doing Fairpoint for internet, since Comcast has priced itself out of existence. I feel bad that we won’t have HCTV, but, again, Comcast is so greedy that they won’t get me as a customer.
But it is nice to be half a block from the TV station. Tonight was the Select Board meeting, so I sauntered on down the street, only to find that there was a public meeting on the new town building at 5 PM that I had no idea about. So I set up quietly as the meeting went on.
As Hardwick’s newest resident, but one that knows 7 years of the Town’s Business, I don’t understand the resistance to the new building. Some people were complaining about the town owning property, one insisted that they move Hardwick Electric’s offices up there and sell of their building! I simply don’t understand that one.
