Bow Thayer and Perfect Trainwreck
Last week I was down at Dartmouth working some projection gig with Tim M. He mentioned a music festival on Aug. 4. I negotiated a rate and hired Finn as second. I rounded up three still cameras, too.
This show was on the second night of the three day Tweed River Music Festival in Stockbridge, VT. The headliner was Bo Thayer and Perfect Trainwreck.
I set up my camera in the moat, SR of CTR, and Finn’s Canon still SL of CTR, wide. I placed my Nikon onstage SL looking across the frontline. I used Lars’ camera as the FOH angle, the backup safety.
He had us do two acts, the first was his old band from 20 years ago who just met again three days earlier. Finn was handheld and we got the footage. It was still light outside and the show was great. After the show I reported to Bow about the footage we got. I also talked up the Steadicam and Bow went for it.
For the main act, Finn and I switched cameras. I operated his camera from my SR moat position and we put mine on the Steadicam. It was after 11 PM when they started. At the start of the changeover, a couple started playing a Fire Organ, or Pyrophone.
Finn and I crowded around them and got shots of the two of them playing it.
Then the pedal steel player started in from the stage, playing with the Pyrophone.
