Bank robbery in Hardwick

So I had a lot of errands to run today.  As I was heading to the Union Bank in Hardwick but I decided to stop in at NorthEast Service to switch to the Pathfinder first.  It has it’s windshield replaced and was inspected, so it was ready to drive.

I was standing there with George, the owner of NE Service, discussing the Pathfinder’s starter problem when I saw a state trooper zoom down Wolcott Street with it’s lights on.  This was after I noticed a Morrisville PD SUV driving through town, you never see those here.  Finally I saw the Hardwick PD police chief come over the West Church Street Bridge and go tearing down Wolcott Street too.

Well I got the Pathfinder going and, with Errol ensconced, we headed west toward the bank.  I noticed all the police parked in the Dona’s Car Store parking lot, which is across the street from Union Bank, next to the Merchant’s Bank.  While looking at them I went right past the driveway to the Union Bank.  I pulled into the Aubuchon Hardware to turn around, and thought for a moment about going in through the exit, but I decided to be ‘legit’ since there was a cop convention right across the street.

So I headed back onto Wolcott Street, and went to turn into the bank’s driveway, when I noticed that there was a VT Fish & Game pickup parked across the width of the drive.  huh.  So I pulled up alongside and asked what the problem was.

They said the bank had been knocked over.  I looked across the street at the VSP’s canine car, the HPD police chief, now two Morrisville PD SUVs.  No one was allowed in or out.

The school was ‘locked down’, Olivia and Audrey were herded into a safe corner, all the shades drawn, and everyone was quiet.  I heard from another resident later that he had gone to the school, not knowing what had happened and the school seemed like it was abandoned!

I realized that if I hadn’t stopped to play with the Pathfinder I would be inside he bank with Errol when the robber came in.
