Long Live the Blue Volvo!
So I got on Craigslist and looked for $500 Volvos. There was nothing that cheap, but another red one in Essex. There was a white V70 for $800, but it needed their struts replaced, which would be something like $500! There was also a ’97 blue GLT in New Haven, near dad’s house, but it was $1800.
I asked him to front me the money for the one in Essex and I loaded up the kids and met him there. But when I got there, it wasn’t a wagon! She didn’t say and I didn’t ask, so… Oh, well. That sucked.
We rode with dad down to Bristol and hung out. I went to Vergennes and met with a possible museum gig while they went swimming. I sent a text to the blue Volvo guy asking to see it. He finally got back to me late in the day and I went over there to look at it. I wound up being there for almost 2 hours and took it for a test drive. It seemed in good shape. I had a great time with the guy selling it. He was a 6’4″ tattooed Vermont redneck and was trading it for a Mercury Marquis. I talked him down to $1100, pointing out things like the bumper sag and other items he didn’t know about.
This car has a turbo and it doesn’t leak oil! So I bought it.
