Reported and told Mr Yates of my going to Wash. He again spoke of the regular Navy men being down(?) on(?) the reserve officers.
Tried twice to see Lt. Merrill *** ****.

Saw Lt. Com. Root and he went with me to see Com Coke and Lt. Com Stewart.
I got a note from Lt Robertson for Lt. Merrill.
Sunday
Stayed home all day and just visited with Pearl and the kid***. G*** was sick, getting over the measles.
Saturday [He wrote all this down this page, but then copied the parts over into succeeding days} Reported and got excused until Tuesday morning. Left New York 1:08 PM and in Wash. 10:30 PM. Reported this morning. Lt Yates told me again if I could find a ship and the Capt. would ask for me. He would send me to her.
S****ed all say and rainy. Went to B*****(Brooklyn?) and had lunch with the B*****t in the Ryndown(?).
Reported. Lt Yates says this is **** in sight for me. Maj.W.A. Mensch(?) showed me a clipping today from a Wash. paper some of my recruiting publicity.

All day cold and rainey.
Reported. Saw Lt. Com. Grady and he advised me to go to Wash. and report the whole business.
Left the hold today and moved to 14 East 36th St.
Had dinner here tonight.

S*** P***d up could not get a suit, so had to stay in.
Reported, ordered to stay in our rooms(?) unless we had “sit*” clothes from 3(?) tonight until 11 tomorrow night.

Reported this AM and was asked what *** I carried and was told that he could not send me out to sea with men who had ****. I reported to 45 Broadway and then to 280 Broadway, the Fleet Reserve.

Left Wash 12:20, arrived NY 7:30 AM.
Finished signing all my papers and called to see Lt Com Root. He was in NY.
