May 12, 1989 – Mother’s Day, At Sea

Sunday, at sea. Long. 59.36, Lat 40.06 Dist 230 miles.

At quarters this morning I read the orders(?) from the states to the men in regard to today being “Mother’s Day” and wanted each of them to write a note or letter to his mother.

Sighted another ship early this AM and went back for her. We got caught in dense fog but later it cleared. At about noon we ere up with the convoy. We built a target for the Germans to shoot at tomorrow and *** they got it over the stern then they want to *****.
