May 15, 1918 – At Sea

Wednesday, at sea

This AM had general quarters and other drills.  During the day two large ships have passed homeward bound.

We had wireless this morning that 8 ‘subs’ were sighted yesteday, some are directly in our path.

The Tacoma stpped today and we left her. *** Everyone thought she was going back but she had trouble with steering gear. And while she was stopped another one of the ships hove to with engine trouble. Both came up later today.

Tonight the ship is rolling somethign firece. We have a nasty sea. The sweets(?) have been ground(?) the last few nights and we are having(?) a new moon(?). It will be about full when we hit the ‘sub’ territory.
